First United Methodist hosts annual kickoff on Saturday

A group performs at a prior year’s Feeding the 5,000 Families event at St. Joseph’s church. This year’s kickoff concert is Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Pocatello.

Feeding the 5,000 Families’ 17th annual interfaith kickoff concert will be Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, 200 N. 15th Ave., Pocatello. The event begins at 6:45 p.m.

    Local performers from area faith communities donate their time to make this a unique and special event. The prelude welcome will be “I Am the Light of the World,” “We Are Called,” “Love Grows Here,” “Until We Are Fed” are performed by the Rejoice Singers from First United Methodist Church.

he invocation will be given by Father John Worster, Holy Spirit Catholic Community. Greetings and introduction of committee members will be made by Laura McKnight, Holy Spirit Catholic Community and Jeanne Drais, First Presbyterian Church. The Scripture reading of Isaiah 58:6-7 will be by Dawn McLaughlin with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

    Presenting the 2014 theme song, “This Is the Fast I Choose,” will be Norma Boyd, with Kristen Stucki singing. Remarks will be made by Rebecca Ristrem of the Idaho Foodbank, and the song, “Friend of God, You Are Good,” led by Stephanie Evans, will be performed by members of Praise Temple of God Church.

  “One Thing, I Say a Prayer,” will be sung by Scott Elliot of Grace Lutheran Church, and “Celebration, Believe,” will be played by the Celebration Ringers of First Presbyterian Church, led by Chris Roskelley. “Thou Knowest, Lord” and “I Will Trust in the Lord” will be directed by Trent Clegg of the Trinity Episcopal Church Choir.

    Organ selections will be performed by Derek Schaible of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, and “Angels Watching over Me,” a violin number, will be performed by Sarah Hibbert of the LDS Church. “Elijah and Joshua,” “Music Down in My Soul,” will be sung by the Reflections Choir, directed by Dede Hegstead and accompanied by Rachael Kowallis. “Amazing Grace” and “I Touched His Robe” will be sung by Melissa Nielson of the LDS Church, accompanied by David Bowen of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.

    “Nearer My God to Thee,” “It Is Well, Always” and “You’ve Got to Have Heart” will be sung by the Idaho Gateway Chorus, directed by Toukine Deakin. The second performance of the theme song, “My Kind of Fast,” will be reprised by Norma Boyd, accompanied by Kristen Stucki.

    The concert ends with the benediction, made by Pastor Jacqualine Thomas of Praise Temple of God Church.

    Monetary and non-perishable food items will be accepted at the concert and donated to the Idaho Foodbank. The concert is free and open to the public. All are welcome.
